Good Day Folks,

I have had some changes in 2016.

I spent the beginning of last year thinking of where my writing adventure needs to go. I have spent most of the year focused on finding a Children’s Literary Agent. Having an agent that knows and understands the children’s market would, one send more children on wild adventures and help them release their inner magic we all have within us. Second allow me more time to write more adventures. Third move my writing career to the next level. So I spend a lot of time researching, writing queries. So far I have received some very nice rejections. I still am hopeful though. Just need to keep plugging away, that’s the business. I am also blessed my friend Pam Stack at Authors on the Air Global Radio Network http://www.authorsontheair.com/  https://www.facebook.com/authorsontheairglobalradionetwork read a couple of my books and told me she loved my original writing, will save the adventure for her granddaughter.. She brightened up my day with her kind review and told me to keep plugging away some one will want to represent me. Check out her interviews and the other interviews on Authors On the Air. I emailed a query this morning. Wish me luck!

I also started doodling on rocks. I saw a post called doodle stones and so I started seeing pictures in stones and doodling on rocks, then leave them around town to brighten up folks day. Here is a couple I have done. It relaxes me.

I am still writing. Editing book 6 in my children’s series Well that is all I am going to say today. Next post I will talk about what I have been imagining. Thanks for dropping in today. Enjoy the Adventures the day brings you! WB

Many Many Adventures more than writing!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

I always say I need to blog every week but seem to have so many things come up. I will try to get better at letting you know what my latest adventure is.

ac promo 1First my publisher Anchor Group Publishing has my book 4, Amongst the Clouds on sale this month. This adventure is for ages 7-12. What could be hidden in a cloud? Epic Adventure of Course. http://www.amazon.com/Amongst-Clouds-James-Syvok-Adventure-ebook/dp/B00LV3Y8CQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454610403&sr=8-1&keywords=amongst+the+clouds

Wow, I have been busy. I am still editing book 6 working title Magic Carousel. Sure is a fun adventure. I introduce two new characters,Tina and Timothy.

Mermaid_Tina  Ogre_TimothyI also been editing and writing my novel New Moon Brethren. I had to take a break from my writers group, rather bummed. But just not enough time for it right now.

I was asked by Big Rapids Festival of Arts to organize an Authorpalooza Event for them. What a a fun adventure it has become. 40+ authors are coming February 20th to Big Rapids 1pm to 4PM. Plus classic book characters will be wandering around to interact with you. Thanks to Ferris State University Theatre Students. 12506484_10154417437838056_1951026028_n

This is going to be a fun event. We have a month full of art activities. If you are in the area here is Festival of Arts website. Check out the booklet with all the Art Activities. http://www.brfota.org/

Authorpalooza is on page 59. I have an event page here is the link for it. https://www.facebook.com/events/1107965342554486/.  This has been a blast organizing.

I am also looking for a children’s literary agent. Been sending out many queries. Gotten a few rejections, The rejections have been much nicer than 10 years ago. So I am getting better.  I do hope a agent will want to work with me in the near future, so I can dedicate more time for writing.

I also started a Facebook Weekly Children’s Author Spotlight from the FB group Kids Read-Author Promo Group. I put up the dates and authors sign up for a spotlight. Then for a week folks have the opportunity to get to know children’s authors and their book, experiences etc. Check them out and interact with the authors. We love to chat, answer questions with folks.

Recently, I have become involved with keeping our water safe. Joined a group who right now are trying to stop an injection well go active in my county. An oil and gas company wants to dump toxic waste from their oil fracking and drilling activities. So I have been educating myself on the issues and going to many meetings and writing many statements and speaking up to our public leaders about how dangerous it really is.  At an EPA Public Hearing, a tear jerking moment. A few HS Students  spoke and asked us adults to protect the water for them and the future.

Of course taking care of my family needs takes priority. Now with three teenagers in the house, we have many drama adventures. Fun fun!

Well you are up to date on things. Just a reminder I currently have 5 children epic adventure illustrated chapter books available for kids ages 7-12. Hope you enjoyed my many adventures. Thanks for stopping in. Enjoy the adventure the day brings you. WB WendyBookcaseLogo

Good Bye 2014. Hello 2015 Adventure

Good Day Folks,  10696323_10153270875028056_4899492308701585539_n

2014 was quite the year. I call it a building and renewal year adventure. Two of my books won awards.

IMG_2155James Saves the Moon won a Gold Medal Best Children’s Fantasy/SciFI from Readers Favorite. Helga Returns won a Best Children’s Book ages 9-12 from Turning the Pages Magazine. Traveled with double vision from Michigan to Orlando in April and received my award from Turning the Pages award ceremony. It was a lot of fun. Delighted to meet  author Mcv Egan in person. We have been friends for years on facebook. My pal Stacey Rourke was there  and many other authors.

While beginning the editing process of my 4th book Amongst the Clouds in February/March and Turning 50 I ended up in the hospital with two bleeding aneurisms. I lost six days, spent 4 nights and had surgery to stop the bleeding. I now have two platinum coils in my head. So I guess my head has gone platinum. LOL  I was lucky walked out of the hospital. My recovery has been remarkable.

Reviewed by Dinorah Blackman for Readers’ Favorite Star Review January 15, 2015

Growing up, we all had imaginary friends, but James’s pals are so awesome that one can easily believe they are real. It all begins with a beautiful and unusual cloud that seemed to be stuck in place. As James daydreams about its mysterious beauty, he is launched on an unexpected adventure in the company of his imaginary friends. As they try to discover the meaning of the cloud, they end up becoming key players in a battle in which rivals fight to take control. From flying on a blue dragon’s back to their eager search for a lost key that opens a spell book, James and his friends have a day packed with suspense and drama. However, they still manage to get him home by dinnertime so he can tell his family all about it. Amongst the Clouds by Wendy Nystrom is an awesome book that young and old will enjoy.

In Amongst the Clouds, author Wendy Nystrom does a brilliant job of describing how high a child’s imagination can actually fly. The main protagonist dozes off and ends up in the middle of a lucid dream that teaches him a number of valuable lessons about the importance of loyalty. The story is well written and contains a lot of characters with which kids can easily identify. At the same time, Wendy Nystrom shares a little bit of Icelandic culture with the reader, enabling him or her to easily grasp the context of the adventure. The language is vibrant and appropriate for children, and the book includes many illustrations that add to the mental image so aptly formed by her words.

I was also able to finish my 5th Book Sleigh Ride in time for Christmas SleighRideCover (2)release. Another fun adventure: James and his pals help a polar bear and delivers Santa another sleigh since his was broken accidentally by his reindeer.

Authorpalooza event went well in November and will be organizing another one in June of 2015 at Big Rapids Community Library. Had a fabulous team to work with for this event.  Spoke in a classroom where the kids were all excited about writing their own book. Spoke at a University Creative writing class. Then the year ended with having my first book James Saves the Moon is listed in a catalog at a new company Called Booksurf  a home book shopping of signed books created by Stacey Rourke. Check out the website lots of books and more in the spring collection.  www.booksurfllc.com

The holidays were spectacular. We drove to Arizona to spend with my wonderful in-laws. We stopped in NM to visit more relatives on the way had a blast. Then four corners and met the in-laws at the Grand Canyon. We explored for a couple of days. Then a wonderful Christmas at their winter home in Arizona. The family loved the trip.

I am very excited about 2015. Hoping my books get into the hands of many kids. My writing is coming back. I am working on my urban fantasy novel New Moon Brethren and 6th children’s book Magic Carousel.  I joined the local writers group and enjoying those meetings. I have an event with three other authors at Biggby Coffee in February. Susan Stec, Jeni Decker and Becca Vincenza. authors books

2015 is becoming a wonderful adventure. More adventures on the way I am sure.

The Bridge of Deaths by MCV Egan New Cover reveal Adventure

Standard

Good Day Folks,  so honored to release the new cover for MCV Egan’s book The Bridge of Deaths.

I love this new cover.

TBOD-frontcover

“M.C.V. Egan twists truth and fiction until you question your perceptions…it is a story of real love, triumph and search for self.” – Beckah Boyd @ The Truthful Tarot

On August 15th, 1939, an English passenger plane from British Airways Ltd. crashed in Danish waters between the towns of Nykøbing Falster and Vordingborg. There were five casualties reported and one survivor. Just two weeks before, Hitler invaded Poland. With the world at the brink of war, the manner in which this incident was investigated left much open to doubt. The jurisdiction battle between the two towns and the newly formed Danish secret police created an atmosphere of intrigue and distrust.

The Bridge of Deaths is a love story and a mystery. Fictional characters travel through the world of past life regressions and information acquired from psychics as well as archives and historical sources to solve “one of those mysteries that never get solved.”

Based on true events and real people, The Bridge of Deaths is the culmination of 18 years of sifting through conventional and unconventional sources in Denmark, England, Mexico and the United States. The story finds a way to help the reader feel that s/he is also sifting through data and forming their own conclusions.

Cross The Bridge of Deaths into 1939, and dive into cold Danish waters to uncover the secrets of the G-AESY.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

MCVEganM.C.V. Egan is the pen name chosen by Maria Catalina Vergara Egan. Catalina was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1959, the sixth of eight children, in a traditional Catholic family. From a very young age, she became obsessed with the story of her maternal grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo–mostly the story of how he died. She spent her childhood in Mexico. When her father became an employee of The World Bank in Washington D.C. in the early 1970s, she moved with her entire family to the United States.

Catalina was already fluent in English, as she had spent one school year in the town of Pineville, Louisiana with her grandparents. There she won the English award, despite being the only one who had English as a second language in her class. In the D.C. suburbs she attended various private Catholic schools and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland in 1977.

She attended Montgomery Community College, where she changed majors every semester. She also studied in Lyons, France, at the Catholic University for two years. In 1981, due to an impulsive young marriage to a Viking (the Swedish kind, not the football player kind), Catalina moved to Sweden where she resided for five years and taught at a language school for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish businesspeople. She then returned to the USA, where she has lived ever since. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Swedish.

Maria Catalina Vergara Egan is married and has one son who, together with their five-pound Chihuahua, makes her feel like a full-time mother. Although she would not call herself an astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in the subject.

She celebrated her 52nd birthday on July 2nd, 2011, and gave herself self-publishing The Bridge of Deaths as a gift.

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland

I have been asked by many to do a post about the yule lads of Iceland. This was my favorite folktale while living in Akureyri, Iceland. When we moved back my kids remembered it and we were lucky the Yule Lads magically came to the U.S to fill my kids boots. My story adds a little twist as they one by one come down from the mountain starting December 12th. After meeting my young James and his mishap caused by the evil yule cat, that led James to thier evil mother  Gryla aka Old Hag while their father watched Leppaludi aka Ragamuffin. Thank goodness James pals save him from Old Hags pot. The yule lads decide to stay in James’ room while they drop off a gift for every well behaved child and have fun creating some havoc and tomfoolery along the way for the town and James.  One Yule lad almost does not make appearance but Matthias the dragon is ready to assist. This book has lots of action, adventure and fun on every page. I tell people it has three stories in one book. It introduces some of Iceland’s Yuletide season traditions. Iceland is full of magic and beauty.

Shades and Shadows Thrilling Eerie Adventure

ShadesAndShadows_Cover_full-res  Good Day Folks,

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of this book.

This anthology is creepy, eerie and thrilling and a perfect read for this time of year. Starting the book with Music Man by Eric White was perfect. I knew more excitement was to come.  I could not wait to read all the other talented authors stories. I like to read fast scary, eerie stories this time of year this anthology does just that, to get me in the Halloween spirit.  You want your heart rate to increase, jump at every noise, and be reminded of that wonderful camp or sleep over stories then this is the perfect read for you. Every story flows off the pages as if you are right there within the pages of the story.  All these authors need to keep on writing. I really enjoyed the haunting stories. After reading the ARC book I downloaded for my kids to read.  My kids are 11 and older.  Every story is totally spooky and well written.  I highly recommend. Reveiw adventures!

Standard

 Good Day Folks,

487958_10152105377558056_470157528_n First I want to let you all know my ebooks are all on sale The sale ends October 1. Links are below. I thought I would share something I have discovered about authors. When most of submit us our books to reviewers, we all of sudden become nervous wrecks. I do. While I wait all of sudden I am insecure about my writing. It does not matter how many say I love your books, or my kids love your books. It does not matter we are waiting for that one review that will crush us for a little while. These are the emotions I go through.

They will hate, the story is to long, they catch some grammatical error,  etc.  This will be the one where a nice reviewer emails me and says I really do not like your story so will not review instead of posting a 1 star review. Then I  try to convince myself it I can only learn from this and do better. These are the thoughts I have and I know many others do. Authors are a insecure bunch.  But this is good, it makes us better writers.

Well so far I have be very blessed. None of these images in my head have come true.  My reviews have been outstanding and criticisms have been very helpful. I want to thank all who take the time to review, share and spread the word that children will love my stories and hopefully let them explore the adventure.

“The color of the illustrations by Jim Weidman and the very well-written story by Wendy Nystrom make “James Saves the Moon” a rare treasure for a children’s picture book.

The biggest advantage of adventure stories is that they encourage children to think and be imaginative. It gives them the freedom to dream, experiment, think differently, and create their own characters. I found the little trolls and dragonets very interesting and they add to the whimsical quality of the story.”

Here is a little about what is going on with me.

What am I working on now?

I am just released my 3rd book. Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland. I just finished the kick off in my home town Christmas in July. I have three Adventure Children Books released from Anchor Group Publishing http://anchorgrouppublishing.com/  ,  https://www.facebook.com/anchorgrouppublishing

I had a grand time being at https://www.facebook.com/oldpioneerstore.emporium

It is a lovely store and I ended up being interviewed by the paper. Now I am getting ready to work on three books. One a Urban Fantasy  Novel,  and two more James and Syvok Adventures. Click on any of the covers to take you to amazon links.

How does it differ from other genre?

Paranormal Days Gone Awry

Paranormal Days Gone Awry

My novel is a Urban Fantasy based off my short story published in Anchor Groups Anthology Paranormal Days Gone Awry. My novel is about secret societies operating for 1000’s of years to protect the earth. This novel is set in the present in Portland. Then my two childrens books are my normal genre. I have having fun with my two main characters Blaze the dragon and her partner Carolyn a troman (half human half troll).

Why do you write what you do?

Well I started writing in 2005, while living in Iceland. The environment and life style is conducive for creative activities. Now I have ideas for book ideas pop up every where I go. I dream many of the stories.

If I am stuck, before I go to sleep I tell myself to travel on this adventure with a character most of the time it is with Blaze from the novel I am working on. She takes me on many adventures.  I have always had vivid dreams, and embraced my imagination.  I am loving this new adventure and learning a new business.

How Does your writing process work?

Some I already talked about. I try to sit down and write in the morning. I put in my music selection and write. When I am blocked I edit and rewrite. Lately life has been throwing me some curve balls so I have not had time to write as often as I like. My ideas have been coming in dreams and I have been to tired to get up at 2 or 4 in the morning to write. I have three kids and we have some changes going on. Plus I am involved with some community projects.
