Helga Returns – A James and Syvok Adventure by Wendy Nystrom is about the adventures of James for the second time. He finds a footprint and he asks his friends Syvok and Matthias to help him find out about the footprint. They discover that it is Helga’s footprint and follow it into the troll village. Will they be able to save the troll and will Syvok and Matthias be able to save James?
It is an absolutely delightful story for children. The story has many underlying messages in it. I liked the fact that it introduces them to glaciers. Any book is educational for a reader because it will have information to offer that gives you an opportunity to learn. The characters of James, Syvok, and Matthias capture the interest of the reader but the most appealing character is Helga, the troll. Iceland as a backdrop is another interesting aspect of this book. It is a magical story of James along with the two Icelanders, Syvok and Matthias. The story does not lose its tempo and the beautiful illustrations give the characters an identity which makes it easier for children to relate to them.
The biggest advantage of adventure stories is that they encourage children to think and be imaginative. It gives them the freedom to dream, experiment, think differently, and create their own characters. I found the little trolls and dragonets very interesting and they add to the whimsical quality of the story.

James Saves the Moon ebook where the epic adventures began is always on sale for 99 pennies.

“James Saves the Moon”, written by Wendy Nystrom, is a delightful children’s picture book that combines a child’s imagination with Icelandic mythology. The illustrations by Jim Weidman, in a blue tone with colorful characters, lend a mythological feel to the story of a young boy (James), who sees the moon over one of the high mountains and decides that if he climbs to the top of the mountain he can reach out and touch the moon. Slipping quietly out of his bedroom window, he sets out on his journey. On his way up the mountain he stumbles over some rocks and disturbs one of Iceland’s mythological figures (Syvok), who joins him on his journey. They suddenly realize that unless they move faster, the moon will leave before they make it to the top of the mountain. In order that they can move faster, Syvok summons a dragon (Matthias), who allows them to ride on his back. They discover that the moon is stuck on the mountain and they will have to help get it unstuck. The three work as a team to set the moon free and while doing so, James truly does touch the moon.

The color of the illustrations by Jim Weidman and the very well-written story by Wendy Nystrom
make “James Saves the Moon” a rare treasure for a children’s picture book. Its simplicity combined with the kind of story that stirs the imagination of a child make it something that will stick in the mind of the reader for a lifetime. This book gives a little bit of a taste of the colorful and flavorful history of Iceland and its traditions. It is highly recommended for its ability to help stir a child’s imagination. A wonderfully simple and delightful tale.

Hope you enjoyed the the sale adventure. Thanks for dropping in. Enjoy the adventure every day brings you, WB    WendyBookcaseLogo

“M.C.V. Egan twists truth and fiction until you question your perceptions…it is a story of real love, triumph and search for self.” – Beckah Boyd @ The Truthful Tarot

On August 15th, 1939, an English passenger plane from British Airways Ltd. crashed in Danish waters between the towns of Nykøbing Falster and Vordingborg. There were five casualties reported and one survivor. Just two weeks before, Hitler invaded Poland. With the world at the brink of war, the manner in which this incident was investigated left much open to doubt. The jurisdiction battle between the two towns and the newly formed Danish secret police created an atmosphere of intrigue and distrust.

The Bridge of Deaths is a love story and a mystery. Fictional characters travel through the world of past life regressions and information acquired from psychics as well as archives and historical sources to solve “one of those mysteries that never get solved.”

Based on true events and real people, The Bridge of Deaths is the culmination of 18 years of sifting through conventional and unconventional sources in Denmark, England, Mexico and the United States. The story finds a way to help the reader feel that s/he is also sifting through data and forming their own conclusions.

Cross The Bridge of Deaths into 1939, and dive into cold Danish waters to uncover the secrets of the G-AESY.

From a very young age, she became obsessed with the story of her maternal grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo–mostly the story of how he died. She spent her childhood in Mexico. When her father became an employee of The World Bank in Washington D.C. in the early 1970s, she moved with her entire family to the United States.

Catalina was already fluent in English, as she had spent one school year in the town of Pineville, Louisiana with her grandparents. There she won the English award, despite being the only one who had English as a second language in her class. In the D.C. suburbs she attended various private Catholic schools and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland in 1977.

She attended Montgomery Community College, where she changed majors every semester. She also studied in Lyons, France, at the Catholic University for two years. In 1981, due to an impulsive young marriage to a Viking (the Swedish kind, not the football player kind), Catalina moved to Sweden where she resided for five years and taught at a language school for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish businesspeople. She then returned to the USA, where she has lived ever since. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Swedish.

Maria Catalina Vergara Egan is married and has one son who, together with their five-pound Chihuahua, makes her feel like a full-time mother. Although she would not call herself an astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in the subject.

The story has a wonderful message and an exciting adventure. The boy in the story goes to visit a cave with his friend, Even though he has been told not to play in the cave due to being near the active volcano on the Island. Whispering Wings By Jayne Peters Adventure

Standard

Good Day Folks,
71eeDAuIfuLWhispering Wings by Jayne Peters
This book would be wonderful to read to kids and older kids will enjoy this magical story of five magical special butterflies. The illustrations by Mike Ferrin, add to the story and will be enjoyed.
I truly enjoyed this book. A young boy named Nick, who is dealing with getting his strength back after accident has positive messages he wants to share and help others. He discovers five caterpillars on his window sill all special and different markings help him help others. They all crawl into his shirt pocket. The caterpillars change into Butterflies and fly out of Nick’s pocket and whisper a message to those having a difficult time. The orange is first and whispers patience to his sister. The next one had wings that looked like stained glass and whispered to his mother helpfulness. The next butterfly whispered cooperation to his father so Nick helped with fixing his sister’s bike. Then a dark reddish-brown coat with black and white trim butterfly flew over to his other sister and whispered friendliness. His little sister comes running out and says “You can’t catch me.” Nick run lopsided with his artificial leg and begins to tear up. The last butterfly fluttered out of his pocket and whispers determination. He ran harder and faster and caught up to his sister. Everyone watches in amazement. That evening when he looks at his window all five beautiful butterflies are there waiting for him to open the window. Tender magical family adventure with five important words to remember is a wonderful read.

Good Day Folks,

Something Scary in Frogville by Perry Perkins 5 stars

Now I know what a frog town is like.  Sure enjoyed my adventure at Frogville

The story is filled with descriptive fun characters.  I enjoyed the story. The illustrations enhance the story. Your reader will enjoy the story, and learn that things are not what they appear to be.  Being nice to someone who may stutter, or is clumsy does not mean they are scrary or cannot help.  The lesson is woven nicely into the exciting story.

Children ages 7 to 9 and adults will enjoy this story.

Frogville is having a rough year. It is and the fish have moved to the center of the nearby lake so the frogs fishing poles do not reach where the fish are.  So they must eat greens and cabbage mostly. Then to top it all off there is something  big in the woods at the edge of frogville, which is close to the Bugaboo’s home.  The Mayor decides that Bumblefoot Bugaboo will investigate and slay the stranger. Bumblefoots real name is Bartholomew but everyone called him Bumblefoot because he had large feet and tripped often. The Mayor gave him the great spear  as he reminds Bartholomew the battle to claim their town. That evening when Bartholomew and his younger sister Emma hears the sounds he sets out to find the stranger. As Bartholomew is thinking of how to confront the huge beast his sister  appearsand starts asking questions. They find out what he is and why he is there.  They discover  Neville a Nutinia and he left his home because he was picked on by the way he spoke. He stuttered. Then he lost his glasses in the lake and can’t  see very well. They become friends and they take him to see the Mayor.Frogville folks get their fishing poles out and Emma finds his glasses. Then Nelville puts them on and swims out with his fishing net and brings back a net full of fish. The Mayor decides, they must have a community meal and invites Nelville to join. Waffles and Pancakes: A Lesson in Bullying by Cindy Sprinsteen Adventure!

Good Day Folks,

Cindy Springsteen is Kidtales’s featured author this week.  https://www.facebook.com/Kidtales

91ycziLj45L._SL1500_Waffles and Pancakes: A Lesson in Bullying By Cindy Springsteen

Waffles and Pancakes, along with Danny and Griffin, their owners, as they come face to face with a couple of bullies; Tom and his guinea pig, Oscar. Will Waffles, Pancakes, and their owners be able to become friends with Tom and Oscar? Find out when you read Waffles and Pancakes: A Lesson In Bullying.

This sweet story has Two hamsters Waffles and Pancakes who are friends. They encounter a Guinea Pig Named Oscar who is not very nice and appears to be a bully. The story also involves the rude behavior of the owner of Oscar towards Waffles and Pancakes owners.  Poor Waffles and Pancakes are so upset that they make themselves ill. Just like many kids do when they encounter bullying. What I like about this book is they work to resolve the bullying by asking questions without bullying back. They discover their was a reason Oscar was unkind to them as do the owners of the pets with parent helping the boys become friends. I recommend this story for early readers.  It is presented well for ages 4  to 7. This book  is a good story and a good way to bring up the topic of bullying with young children.

Waffles and Pancakes are two hamsters, from the same pet store, that went to their new homes on the same day. They also happen to be the best of friends. In their first adventure, their owners became best friends, too. Together the four learned the lesson of true friendship. Now Waffles and Pancakes, along with their owners, are about to learn another lesson, A Lesson in Bullying

Dragon War1205_403812159706987_367318730_ns

This book is a winner.  Danny recently moved to a new town and school after losing his father in a traffic accident. He faces bullying at his new middle school and makes one friend at school Milly.  He begins to place his precious items in a bench window seat and discovers a secret chamber at the bottom. In the chamber is a book and a box. He begins to read the book that seems to come alive pictures dancing before his eyes and reads the surprising text that is written in normal handwriting. The book is about a girl before him who traveled to the land of Dorcian. It is filled with incredible plants and creatures. The best part, incredible dragons. He is interrupted with reading but wants to go to Dorcian.  You have to believe to be transported to this wondrous land. He does believe and is transported there only to discover it has changed and his help is needed after becoming friends with a Dragon. He goes back to his world and school. After hiding from a bully in a custodian closet he transports Millie and himself to the Dorcian.  Milly is captured and held captive in the dungeon at the dark fortress. They discover another child who wrote part of the book has been held captive for years and was missing from the new town Danny moved too. They must save them all and conquer the evil one who wants to make Dorcian all dark. This book if full of adventure, magic, real issues, friendships, foes, fear and finding ones strength to conquer all even when it seems hopeless. I think children would love this book of all ages. Great book for ages 9 to 13.

Loss De Plott The Colour Red, by Stephan J. Meyers Magical Adventure!

Good Day Folks,https://twitter.com/StephanJMyers

911KrIw-YaL._SL1500_As I read the book Loss De Plot The Colour Red, by Stephan J.  Myers, at my table. I found my imagination travel as I read this fable.  The book is a delight it is even better read out loud. The writing is rhythmic and musical to your ears, you may find yourself dancing and flying as the music fills your imagination it soars. Loss De Plot likes to draw and she draws a man with a hat the colour red. He arrives at the door with a book. The book is blank at first to Loss. He Gram tells her it is the book of dreams. That evening she has a dream and finds out about the man with the red hat.  “for when red you draw, in a book of dreams, a simple drawing is not what it seems.”  I think this fable kids would enjoy.  They would find the magic of dreams to place in their book of dreams. The illustrations are fun and thought provoking as well a good addition to the story. My children enjoy their binders full of imagination. I think this book would open your children’s imagination maybe some adults too.  It is reflective for adults of things that could have been or possible still, while for children it is of what could be.  I think I will read more adventures of Loss De Plot by Stephan J. Meyers. This wonderful tale is for sale.To purchase this book, just click on the cover and magically to amazon you will go.This tale is a must look.

Having escaped the drudgery of corporate life and become forever lost to imagination he writes for all ages. His illustrated children’s books include The Book Of Dreams series that begins with The Colour Red.

Shades and Shadows Thrilling Eerie Adventure

ShadesAndShadows_Cover_full-res  Good Day Folks,

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of this book.

This anthology is creepy, eerie and thrilling and a perfect read for this time of year. Starting the book with Music Man by Eric White was perfect. I knew more excitement was to come.  I could not wait to read all the other talented authors stories. I like to read fast scary, eerie stories this time of year this anthology does just that, to get me in the Halloween spirit.  You want your heart rate to increase, jump at every noise, and be reminded of that wonderful camp or sleep over stories then this is the perfect read for you. Every story flows off the pages as if you are right there within the pages of the story.  All these authors need to keep on writing. I really enjoyed the haunting stories. After reading the ARC book I downloaded for my kids to read.  My kids are 11 and older.  Every story is totally spooky and well written.  I highly recommend.
