GOLD James Saves the Moon Adventure!

Just wow so surprised and excited. My first book James Saves the Moon was awarded the Gold medal from Readers Favorite International Book Awards Gold Medal Children’s Fantasy /Sci-Fi. https://readersfavorite.com/2014-award-contest-winners.htm#book11891 The awards were announced September 1. “James Saves the Moon”, written by Wendy Nystrom, is a delightful children’s picture book that combines a child’s imagination with Icelandic mythology. The illustrations by Jim Weidman, in a blue tone with colorful characters, lend a mythological feel to the story of a young boy (James), who sees the moon over one of the high mountains and decides that if he climbs to the top of the mountain he can reach out and touch the moon. Slipping quietly out of his bedroom window, he sets out on his journey. On his way up the mountain he stumbles over some rocks and disturbs one of Iceland’s mythological figures (Syvok), who joins him on his journey. They suddenly realize that unless they move faster, the moon will leave before they make it to the top of the mountain. In order that they can move faster, Syvok summons a dragon (Matthias), who allows them to ride on his back. They discover that the moon is stuck on the mountain and they will have to help get it unstuck. The three work as a team to set the moon free and while doing so, James truly does touch the moon.

The color of the illustrations by Jim Weidman and the very well-written story by Wendy Nystrom make “James Saves the Moon” a rare treasure for a children’s picture book. Its simplicity combined with the kind of story that stirs the imagination of a child make it something that will stick in the mind of the reader for a lifetime. This book gives a little bit of a taste of the colorful and flavorful history of Iceland and its traditions. It is highly recommended for its ability to help stir a child’s imagination. A wonderfully simple and delightful tale.

I am truly honored and proud to receive this award. I began writing while living in Iceland 2005, while keeping my then 7 year old son up on his english while he was becoming fluent in Icelandic. We were running out of books he liked and I was rather upset their were not more adventure books. My son wakes up and tells me the adventures he has while the rest of us are sleeping. One day for real he ran to tell me the moon is sitting on the mountain. “I am going to climb the mountain and touch the moon” The next day after I had a wonderful dream I hand wrote the 1st draft of James Saves the Moon. My son and Iceland unlocked my imagination and I began to have vivid dreams and writing more adventures. I am working on two adult novels and two more in my kids series. I want to thank Anchor Group Publishing for adding me. I love being part of Anchor Group Publishing. Nearly two months since my last post adventure!

Good Day Folks !

I certainly hope most people are doing well. I am improving every day.

I am going to start with what is happening now then talk what has been going on in my life. First my PA Candice is going to be making some changes to the blog look. Always need to update things once in a while. I want to thank Candice Simpson for updating my social media for me.

I should be at Turning The Page Signing/Award Event. My second adventure Helga Returns was awarded best children’s book ages 9 to 12. We have had wicked storms in my area which knocked our power for a while. We were lucky so far at my house. Many of my friends, neighbors are still without power and water since April 12th. Some other had trees or other objects damage their homes or property. And some are having flooding issues. Now we are getting cold again and may get a little snow.

I have another book releasing in May. Been through the editing phase just waiting on the last 6 or so illustrations. It is my best work. 4th in the James and Syvok Adventure. Most of my characters from previous books are involved and a new character has been introduced. What could possibly be inside an iridescent cloud. Lots of action and magic in this adventure.

Late February and March were troublesome for me. I turned 50 February 19th. I had a wonderful night out with friends then a couple of days later I became ill thinking I had the flu. Went to the ER thinking they would give me some fluids to get better but instead they put me on an ambulance and sent me down to a hospital in the big city an hour south of us. Two days later I had brain surgery. I had two bleeding aneurisms one on each side. I always have to be equal I guess. Now my brain has gone platinum. I have platinum coils that have stopped the bleeding. It will be 5 weeks since the surgery. I was lucky I was able to go home to recover. I still have double vision issues and my eyes are improving every day. I sometimes forget the words I was thinking when I was to speak. Otherwise I am walking now most days up to 3 blocks on Sunday. Yesterday when I woke up my vision was single vision for about 2 seconds. If I turn my head a little to the left I have single vision. So my left eye is slowly moving back in place. Neurologists said it should correct itself and recovery varies per individual. My last Cscan was good. The second group of words are just off a little nearly lined up as one. My novel has not been touched, writing has been challenge. Blaze has begun visiting me again in my dreams. She just brought me back home last night. She flew me to her and Carolyn’s mountain retreat. It was so wonderful to get some rest and have good company. We had lovely conversations, played cards, went out on the mountain lake behind the home, read, and relaxed in the interior hot spring pool. I got to know their brownies who are wonderful creatures who take care of the place. They became part of Carolyn’s family when she lived in Scotland. They are like sprites or nymphs who live in the woods and will take care of things you did not get done during the day if you treat them nice. So I should be back working on the New Moon

I am hoping to have my vision back or close to normal this week. Yep I wrote this seeing everything in double. Pretty good huh…….. LOL
