Loss De Plott The Colour Red, by Stephan J. Meyers Magical Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,https://twitter.com/StephanJMyers

911KrIw-YaL._SL1500_As I read the book Loss De Plot The Colour Red, by Stephan J.  Myers, at my table. I found my imagination travel as I read this fable.  The book is a delight it is even better read out loud. The writing is rhythmic and musical to your ears, you may find yourself dancing and flying as the music fills your imagination it soars. Loss De Plot likes to draw and she draws a man with a hat the colour red. He arrives at the door with a book. The book is blank at first to Loss. He Gram tells her it is the book of dreams. That evening she has a dream and finds out about the man with the red hat.  “for when red you draw, in a book of dreams, a simple drawing is not what it seems.”  I think this fable kids would enjoy.  They would find the magic of dreams to place in their book of dreams. The illustrations are fun and thought provoking as well a good addition to the story. My children enjoy their binders full of imagination. I think this book would open your children’s imagination maybe some adults too.  It is reflective for adults of things that could have been or possible still, while for children it is of what could be.  I think I will read more adventures of Loss De Plot by Stephan J. Meyers. This wonderful tale is for sale.To purchase this book, just click on the cover and magically to amazon you will go.This tale is a must look.

A little about Stephan J. Myers from his amazon authors page: Permanently glued to a rather dilapidated chair with a much pandered pooch at his feet; Stephan J Myers was born in England and Loss De Plott is the first in his series books for grownups featuring the beguiling Loss De Plott.

Having escaped the drudgery of corporate life and become forever lost to imagination he writes for all ages. His illustrated children’s books include The Book Of Dreams series that begins with The Colour Red.

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland

I have been asked by many to do a post about the yule lads of Iceland. This was my favorite folktale while living in Akureyri, Iceland. When we moved back my kids remembered it and we were lucky the Yule Lads magically came to the U.S to fill my kids boots. My story adds a little twist as they one by one come down from the mountain starting December 12th. After meeting my young James and his mishap caused by the evil yule cat, that led James to thier evil mother  Gryla aka Old Hag while their father watched Leppaludi aka Ragamuffin. Thank goodness James pals save him from Old Hags pot. The yule lads decide to stay in James’ room while they drop off a gift for every well behaved child and have fun creating some havoc and tomfoolery along the way for the town and James.  One Yule lad almost does not make appearance but Matthias the dragon is ready to assist. This book has lots of action, adventure and fun on every page. I tell people it has three stories in one book. It introduces some of Iceland’s Yuletide season traditions. Iceland is full of magic and beauty.

Shades and Shadows Thrilling Eerie Adventure

Standard

ShadesAndShadows_Cover_full-res  Good Day Folks,

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of this book.

This anthology is creepy, eerie and thrilling and a perfect read for this time of year. Starting the book with Music Man by Eric White was perfect. I knew more excitement was to come.  I could not wait to read all the other talented authors stories. I like to read fast scary, eerie stories this time of year this anthology does just that, to get me in the Halloween spirit.  You want your heart rate to increase, jump at every noise, and be reminded of that wonderful camp or sleep over stories then this is the perfect read for you. Every story flows off the pages as if you are right there within the pages of the story.  All these authors need to keep on writing. I really enjoyed the haunting stories. After reading the ARC book I downloaded for my kids to read.  My kids are 11 and older.  Every story is totally spooky and well written.  I highly recommend. This book is available now on Amazon and B&N

More Than Magic: Semester Aboard Cover Reveal Adventure

Standard

WendyBookcaseLogo (2)I recommend this fun, entertaining, exciting read. Who knew of the magic among us. Are you one! Rafflecopter giveaway. WB

Semester Aboard, the first book in the YA urban fantasy series More than Magic series has a brand new cover! If you haven’t read Semester Aboard yet, here’s a quick summary and a little peek for you!

College student Jen Maddox is a few days into her summer study abroad program and has loved every moment. She just left Mexico and is back on her cruise ship campus, ready to sail to Panama. Everyone tells her that the experience will change her life, but none of them realize just how right they really are.
One night Jen goes out on deck and encounters five other students. She knows Charlie from one of her classes and he’s a funny, friendly, regular guy. Picture-perfect Dani and his gorgeous wife Mariana live right down the hall from Jen. And she has seen TS, who’s built like a truck, around the ship and recognizes the cute, but quiet Thomas as well.
Then Jen sees something that isn’t humanly possible. Jen would have thought that it was all a dream, if not for the fact that Charlie, Dani, Mariana, TS, and Thomas are making every effort to cover it up. Suddenly, the five of them are everything but normal and Jen is determined to figure out what they’re hiding.
When she does, her life really does change. Jen expected to spend her summer studying the cultures of Latin America, she never dreamed she’d learn about a magical culture instead.
But Jen’s childhood fantasy come true is about to turn into a nightmare; there’s something on the ship. Something dangerous. Suddenly, everyone on board is threatened by a creature that Jen never even believed existed. Jen and her new friends might be the only people who can stop it! Now Jen has to learn everything she can about her new world before it kills her. And her friends. And maybe everyone on the entire ship!

The More than Magic series is written by Elizabeth Kirke.

Sneak Peek:
It started raining early in the afternoon and was a bad storm by the time I went to bed.  I woke up in the middle of the night and stumbled over to our bathroom, feeling awful.  A bit of quality time bent over the toilet didn’t help at all and I decided to try for some fresh air.  I pulled a sweater on over my pajamas, hung my ID card strap around my neck, and slipped out of the room.  I made my way down the corridor to the door that led outside.  For the first time since getting on the ship I had to keep one hand on the railing.  The halls were well lit, even though it was the middle of the night, and it was almost disconcerting to step outside into the darkness.  But the moment the cool, damp wind hit my face I felt better.  I hadn’t been seasick since our first night, but sometimes I felt nauseous if I stayed in our room too long.  Being out on the deck always helped.

I had assumed that I’d be the only one crazy enough to go out in the rain in the middle of the night, but to my surprise I wasn’t.  There were people on the other side of the deck.  It was too dark to see them well, but the lights from the deck above us illuminated them a little.  One of them was Charlie.  He was standing under the overhang where Deck Five extended out above Deck Four.  He was just wearing a t-shirt and jeans and I shivered in sympathy.  A guy I recognized, not surprising since we all lived on a ship, was sitting on the bottom steps of the outdoor stairway that led to Deck Five.  He was probably a football player back home or something.  He had shaggy, dark brown hair and a fairly large nose.  I’d heard a few girls giggling about him, but I didn’t think he was that good looking.  I wasn’t sure what his name was.  Another guy was sitting in a chair, probably pilfered from Deck Five, with his back to me and his feet up on the rails.  Mariana was near him, wearing only a bikini top and a short skirt.  I couldn’t believe she wasn’t cold.
    “I didn’t scream!” she said.
“You totally did!  You freaked out!” Dani laughed.
It had been too dark to notice Dani until he spoke.  My jaw dropped in shock.  Dani was sitting on the railing of the ship.  Messing around on the rails was one of the first things they’d told us not to do when we got on board.  Even sitting on them in the middle of a calm day was suicidal at best.  But to sit there in the middle of a stormy night was nothing short of a death wish.
    “I was not!” Mariana cried.
“You were all like, ‘Oh, Danio, save me Danio!'”
“Well, I…I-don’t be such a jerk!”
As Mariana spoke she spun to face Dani and shoved him hard.  Dani’s laugh turned into a yell of surprise and he tumbled backward off of the railing!  I gasped in horror.  Every second now was critical.  If someone went overboard we were supposed to immediately throw them a life preserver and then run and tell a crew member.  But not a single one of them did anything!  The one in the chair uncrossed his legs and recrossed them with a different one on top.  The guy on the stairs threw back his head and laughed!  Charlie quickly stuck his head over the railing and then pulled back and shivered.  It was as if Dani hadn’t gone overboard at all.
“Oh my god!” I gasped.  They must have been in shock.  That was the only reason they weren’t rushing to save Dani.  I ran across the deck, at the very least, I could throw the life preserver in and hope he was still alive to use it.
They all jerked around to look at me.  They acted more surprised to see me than they were about Dani falling overboard.  Mariana gasped and backed against the rail.  Charlie stepped to the edge of the overhang and Football Guy jumped off of the stairs to his feet.  The guy in the chair was on his feet in an instant.  I hardly even saw him move; one second he was sitting and the next he was up.  He stepped in front of the others, almost protectively.
“That’s Jennifer.”  Charlie spoke softly like he didn’t want me to hear, but the wind carried his words right to me.  “She’s in one of my classes.”
The guy in front smiled.  “You’re up late.”
They were acting like nothing had happened!  This was insane!
“What’s the matter with you?” I cried.  “We have to do something!”
“Do something?”  He almost looked genuinely confused.  “About what?”
“She just…” I gestured to Mariana.  “She just pushed Dani overboard!”
He had the audacity to laugh.  “It’s raining, you know.  And dark.  You’re mistaken.”

Reveiw adventures!

Standard

 Good Day Folks,

487958_10152105377558056_470157528_n First I want to let you all know my ebooks are all on sale The sale ends October 1. Links are below. I thought I would share something I have discovered about authors. When most of submit us our books to reviewers, we all of sudden become nervous wrecks. I do. While I wait all of sudden I am insecure about my writing. It does not matter how many say I love your books, or my kids love your books. It does not matter we are waiting for that one review that will crush us for a little while. These are the emotions I go through.

They will hate, the story is to long, they catch some grammatical error,  etc.  This will be the one where a nice reviewer emails me and says I really do not like your story so will not review instead of posting a 1 star review. Then I  try to convince myself it I can only learn from this and do better. These are the thoughts I have and I know many others do. Authors are a insecure bunch.  But this is good, it makes us better writers.

Well so far I have be very blessed. None of these images in my head have come true.  My reviews have been outstanding and criticisms have been very helpful. I want to thank all who take the time to review, share and spread the word that children will love my stories and hopefully let them explore the adventure.

“The color of the illustrations by Jim Weidman and the very well-written story by Wendy Nystrom make “James Saves the Moon” a rare treasure for a children’s picture book.

The biggest advantage of adventure stories is that they encourage children to think and be imaginative. It gives them the freedom to dream, experiment, think differently, and create their own characters. I found the little trolls and dragonets very interesting and they add to the whimsical quality of the story.”

How does it differ from other genre?

Paranormal Days Gone Awry

Paranormal Days Gone Awry

My novel is a Urban Fantasy based off my short story published in Anchor Groups Anthology Paranormal Days Gone Awry. My novel is about secret societies operating for 1000’s of years to protect the earth. This novel is set in the present in Portland. Then my two childrens books are my normal genre. I have having fun with my two main characters Blaze the dragon and her partner Carolyn a troman (half human half troll).

Why do you write what you do?

Well I started writing in 2005, while living in Iceland. The environment and life style is conducive for creative activities. Now I have ideas for book ideas pop up every where I go. I dream many of the stories.

If I am stuck, before I go to sleep I tell myself to travel on this adventure with a character most of the time it is with Blaze from the novel I am working on. She takes me on many adventures.  I have always had vivid dreams, and embraced my imagination.  I am loving this new adventure and learning a new business.

How Does your writing process work?

Some I already talked about. I try to sit down and write in the morning. I put in my music selection and write. When I am blocked I edit and rewrite. Lately life has been throwing me some curve balls so I have not had time to write as often as I like. My ideas have been coming in dreams and I have been to tired to get up at 2 or 4 in the morning to write. I have three kids and we have some changes going on. Plus I am involved with some community projects.

Blurb: “Sometimes love sends you sailing over the edge.”

Kat Cherish, high school principal and activist (a combination that hasn’t been great for her career) heads back to her hometown to mend her dignity only to discover her estranged kid sister is a mess… and their childhood home is for sale. Getting the house back just might be the only thing that can put Kat’s complicated family back together… if she can cope with her mixed feelings for her ex-boyfriend, who’s been hired to completely remodel her house for another potential buyer… and if she doesn’t lose her new job because of the outrageous antics she’s pulling to keep her sister out of trouble.

Excerpt:

Kat shifted her wrists in the steel handcuffs. Rough, ancient bark pressed against her cheek, and the damp air intensified the resinous tang of the virgin forest. She’d been here since dawn—long enough to be on a first-name basis with Harvey, the Douglas fir. Which, if she let herself consider for more than a minute at a time, was kind of a weird development for a grown woman who had a respectable career. She’d consider it in more depth later. Right now she had enough on her mind.

A gust of coastal wind snatched her hat, and chilly rain plastered her hair to her scalp and trickled down her neck, making her teeth chatter. Nearby, a group of men wielded wrenches on a logging machine that refused to start. One of her students, the school board superintendent’s son, retrieved the hat and plopped it back on Kat’s head.

“Don’t worry,” he whispered, “they’re not going to get that machine going anytime soon.”

Alarm nibbled the back of her mind like a classroom gerbil gnawing a toilet paper tube.

“There’d better not be a reason you know that.”

He laughed. “I’m just saying.” Then, calling to his friends, he trotted off.

Kat wondered whether she’d still have her job at the end of the day.

The superintendent had made it clear she’d lose it in a blink if the kids did anything more than show up, and Kat had made them promise not to chain themselves to any trees. So far, all they’d done was text the protest’s breaking news to their friends… unless they’d messed with the equipment before she got here this morning. The thought made her stomach feel like she’d eaten fir needles for lunch. She stared up into the dense boughs radiating from Harvey’s trunk high above her.

“You don’t think the kids wrecked that machine, do you, Harv? I mean, they know my career is at stake here.” Harvey only sighed in the wind, branches waving toward the broken-down machine. Yeah, it had Kat a little worried, too.

She flexed her shoulders, stiff from the hours she’d spent shackled to the tree. She wasn’t against logging; she lived in a wood-frame house and used reams of paper. What school principal didn’t? And the logging industry in Mills Creek fed a lot of families.

In the last few hours, she’d had a chance to reevaluate her reasons for chaining herself to this tree. This was about so much more than the environment. It was about standing up for someone who couldn’t stand up for herself. Or in Harvey’s case, himself. It was about choices that had been taken away from her. It was about the fact that sometimes, no matter how wrong you were, you couldn’t undo what you’d done.

Her goal wasn’t to stop the logging, this community’s lifeblood. It was to protect something beautiful and precious. If she could win this one small battle, do this one small good deed, save just this one tree, maybe it would somehow make amends in her heart for what she’d let happen to her family.

A Jeep rattled up the steep gravel road and pulled off on the landing, followed a few seconds later by a police car. Kat’s stomach clenched.

A man exited the passenger door of the Jeep. His footsteps scuffed on the dirt road. Craning her neck, she peered through slanting late-afternoon shadows, making out only his easy gait and the set of his broad shoulders. Had they brought in a negotiator? He leaned into the police car for a minute, then stood, head down, hands on his hips, like a man bearing a heavy burden.

She almost felt sorry for the guy. She might look like a waterlogged rat at the moment, but he had no idea what he was up against. A tiny smirk crept over her mouth.

Now that this block of forest had been opened up to clear-cut logging, Harvey would have to watch while his family was torn away, one by one. She knew how he felt because the same thing had happened to her, until she had just one family member left. And she and Lacey weren’t even on speaking terms at the moment.

She dug her fingers into Harvey’s sturdy bark. “What am I doing talking to trees instead of making things right between Lacey and me?”

Soft footfalls on the carpet of needles behind her.

She straightened as much as she could. The chain connecting the two sets of handcuffs slipped and pulled her down with it until she had to slump against the tree trunk.

“Kat, what are you doing?” He sounded as exhausted as she felt. Sounded… disturbingly familiar.

That voice. Evan. Here? Memories grabbed her heart and sliced through it like the blade of the nearby feller buncher waiting to chop the young trees from their roots—if the loggers could get it running again. She strained her eyes to the left, looking without turning her head.

Evan was watching her, jaw clenched, rainwater slicking his blond hair.

She blinked the water from her eyes.

He was still there.

Not a gorgeous hallucination. A gorgeous reality. Her pulse whumped in her ears.

What was she doing? That was easy—she was running away from her failure to keep her family together. But what was Evan doing?
