Author Vicki Batman Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

Today I have the honor of introducing Vicki Batman. She is quite the character enjoy the adventure of getting to know award winning author Vicki Batman and check out her books.

vicki batman picture mayVicki Batman May 2015 Tour

BIO: Award-winning author, Vicki Batman, has sold many romantic comedy works to the True magazines, several publishers, and most recently, a romantic comedy mystery to The Wild Rose Press. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and several writing groups.
An avid Jazzerciser. Handbag lover. Mahjong player. Yoga practioner. Movie fan. Book devourer. Cat fancier. Best Mom ever. And adores Handsome Hubby.
Most days begin with her hands set to the keyboard and thinking “What if??”

LET’S CHAT: How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing? So much so, my men are afraid anything they say or do will show up. My heroine loves handbags, chocolate, and Jeeps—just like me.

What kind of research do you do for a book? It depends. So far, the funniest has been about plumbing and fruitcake. For Temporarily Employed, I researched stolen car parts, insurance, cops. It helps to be mostly right.

When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms? I wished for a long time I could write mysteries like Dick Francis; yet, it took me twenty years to try. Wish I had begun sooner. Maybe my ideas needed to percolate.

Tell us about your romantic comedy mystery, Temporarily Employed. What motivated the story? Where did the idea come from? A friend challenged me to write the opening paragraph of a book using the word window. I used it and a lot more. My muse worked me for eight more chapters. I showed what I had to my friend and she said for me to continue.

Do you feel humor is important in fiction and why? I do. For me, writing humor in my stories comes naturally. And it is more real life. I’m not a doom and gloomy person. I select specific words for a funny result and write humorous dialogue.

What is your writing routine once you start a book? An idea goes Bing! And I take off, usually in dialogue with a smattering of the other stuff as it pops in my head. My first draft is very, very rough. I read over and over and edit and edit to get it perfect for my critique partner. When I get my critique back, I’d hoped all would be good to go, but alas, it never is. So I work and work it again. Then one day, I let go…

What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?
Sounds crazy but I always workout. Every single day. I do needlepoint and chill in front of the TV with Handsome.

Desperate for cash to cover the basic necessities of rent and food, she takes a temporary job where she uncovers an embezzling scam tied to the death of a former employee–the very one she replaced.

When the police determine there’s more to the death of a former Buy Rite employee, Detective Allan Charles Wellborn steps in to lead the investigation. Overly dedicated, always perfect, he puts his job first, even if doing so ultimately hurts the one he loves.

Can the killer be found before Hattie’s time is up?

I’m a Dragon by Sigal Adler Adventure

Standard

Good Day Folks,
This book was fun. Of course I am a little biased since I love dragons. Yes I agree dragons can do whatever they want.
I’m a Dragon by Sigal Adler . 5 gold stars   i'm a dragon
The book is fun rhyming story with colorful fun illustrations by Abira Das. It is 12 pages long. I think parents will enjoy reading this rhythmic rhyming story that discusses a child pushing the limits. I also think young readers up to age 7 will enjoy the story. Children and parents can have fun acting out the scenes as they read.
Brief Synopsis
A young boy named Ron, announces he is a dragon for the day. This means can do anything he wants day or night. His dad has trouble with him throughout the day. Dragons only eat pizza, pasta and ice cream. He does not want to pick up his room, and does not have to ask permission to do anything. Bed time is the final straw, when the young dragon has finally pushed his tired dad and he loses his patience. His father turns into a dragon-dad with three heads. Ron thinks and decides he is not a dragon kid since is dad is a great big dragon and not much fun. It is time to end the game of being a dragon kid and start listening to dad, and go to bed and have a fun dream.

Oceanus chuckled and changed the subject. “You’re finally seeing her for who she is, aren’t you, little brother?” The formalities were absent. Oceanus spoke to Pyre as his brother, not as his leader for the time being.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Pyre lied, poorly.

This caused an outright laugh to erupt from Oceanus. “Yes, you do.”

He flicked Pyre’s shoulder with his tail. “You haven’t picked on her once since she told us of her plan to raise the mountain.”

“She’s amazing, Oceanus. Father and the others they were so wrong about her. She’s a gift to us from the gods. She has to be! They talk to her! None of us except Rose can talk to them. We were so wrong about her, Oceanus. Father should have let you mate her. She deserves to be an Oni’s mate. You can mate her now you know.” Pyre’s words ran from his mouth in string of nonsense, but Oceanus heard and understood them all.

“Aye. She would make the perfect mate for an Oni. But I have seen the way she looks at you, Pyre. I missed my chance to have her by my side. You, however, have just come into her sights. Stay with her until she wakes, then head home.” Oceanus emphasized home by lifting his head and looking up at the floating mountain.

pyre

Pyre let Oceanus’ words roll around in his mind long after his brother had left. As night fell, a wind began to howl through the tunnel the floating mountain and the ground made causing the temperature to plummet in the desert. Pyre watched Rose sleeping, and every so often took his tail to brush off the sand that accumulated on her body.

About the
Author –

Emily Fogle was born and raised in Southern
California. Her dream and ultimate goal was to get her Masters degree in
English and become a teacher with enough time to write, as well. However, she
soon found out that the best dreams often come true when they aren’t planned.
Instead of fulfilling her teaching goal, real life took over and she married
the man of her dreams. She now has an amazing 7 year old son and another
beautiful baby boy on the way.

She dedicates the majority of her time taking
care of her family, volunteering at her son’s school, and being a Cub Scout Den
leader. And though she loves every minute of it, the thought of being a writer
still tugs at her heart. So, after the busy days are done and everyone is finally
sleeping quietly, she squeezes in time for all the other loves in her life: the
characters running wild inside her head.
     Now,
incredibly, her writing dream is also coming true. Her first novel, Dragon
Wars, is being published by Anchor Group. Emily feels sincerely blessed to have
been given so much in life and can’t wait to start the next chapter.

Blurb: “Sometimes love sends you sailing over the edge.”

Kat Cherish, high school principal and activist (a combination that hasn’t been great for her career) heads back to her hometown to mend her dignity only to discover her estranged kid sister is a mess… and their childhood home is for sale. Getting the house back just might be the only thing that can put Kat’s complicated family back together… if she can cope with her mixed feelings for her ex-boyfriend, who’s been hired to completely remodel her house for another potential buyer… and if she doesn’t lose her new job because of the outrageous antics she’s pulling to keep her sister out of trouble.

Excerpt:

Kat shifted her wrists in the steel handcuffs. Rough, ancient bark pressed against her cheek, and the damp air intensified the resinous tang of the virgin forest. She’d been here since dawn—long enough to be on a first-name basis with Harvey, the Douglas fir. Which, if she let herself consider for more than a minute at a time, was kind of a weird development for a grown woman who had a respectable career. She’d consider it in more depth later. Right now she had enough on her mind.

A gust of coastal wind snatched her hat, and chilly rain plastered her hair to her scalp and trickled down her neck, making her teeth chatter. Nearby, a group of men wielded wrenches on a logging machine that refused to start. One of her students, the school board superintendent’s son, retrieved the hat and plopped it back on Kat’s head.

“Don’t worry,” he whispered, “they’re not going to get that machine going anytime soon.”

Alarm nibbled the back of her mind like a classroom gerbil gnawing a toilet paper tube.

“There’d better not be a reason you know that.”

He laughed. “I’m just saying.” Then, calling to his friends, he trotted off.

Kat wondered whether she’d still have her job at the end of the day.

The superintendent had made it clear she’d lose it in a blink if the kids did anything more than show up, and Kat had made them promise not to chain themselves to any trees. So far, all they’d done was text the protest’s breaking news to their friends… unless they’d messed with the equipment before she got here this morning. The thought made her stomach feel like she’d eaten fir needles for lunch. She stared up into the dense boughs radiating from Harvey’s trunk high above her.

“You don’t think the kids wrecked that machine, do you, Harv? I mean, they know my career is at stake here.” Harvey only sighed in the wind, branches waving toward the broken-down machine. Yeah, it had Kat a little worried, too.

She flexed her shoulders, stiff from the hours she’d spent shackled to the tree. She wasn’t against logging; she lived in a wood-frame house and used reams of paper. What school principal didn’t? And the logging industry in Mills Creek fed a lot of families.

In the last few hours, she’d had a chance to reevaluate her reasons for chaining herself to this tree. This was about so much more than the environment. It was about standing up for someone who couldn’t stand up for herself. Or in Harvey’s case, himself. It was about choices that had been taken away from her. It was about the fact that sometimes, no matter how wrong you were, you couldn’t undo what you’d done.

Her goal wasn’t to stop the logging, this community’s lifeblood. It was to protect something beautiful and precious. If she could win this one small battle, do this one small good deed, save just this one tree, maybe it would somehow make amends in her heart for what she’d let happen to her family.

A Jeep rattled up the steep gravel road and pulled off on the landing, followed a few seconds later by a police car. Kat’s stomach clenched.

A man exited the passenger door of the Jeep. His footsteps scuffed on the dirt road. Craning her neck, she peered through slanting late-afternoon shadows, making out only his easy gait and the set of his broad shoulders. Had they brought in a negotiator? He leaned into the police car for a minute, then stood, head down, hands on his hips, like a man bearing a heavy burden.

She almost felt sorry for the guy. She might look like a waterlogged rat at the moment, but he had no idea what he was up against. A tiny smirk crept over her mouth.

Now that this block of forest had been opened up to clear-cut logging, Harvey would have to watch while his family was torn away, one by one. She knew how he felt because the same thing had happened to her, until she had just one family member left. And she and Lacey weren’t even on speaking terms at the moment.

She dug her fingers into Harvey’s sturdy bark. “What am I doing talking to trees instead of making things right between Lacey and me?”

Soft footfalls on the carpet of needles behind her.

She straightened as much as she could. The chain connecting the two sets of handcuffs slipped and pulled her down with it until she had to slump against the tree trunk.

“Kat, what are you doing?” He sounded as exhausted as she felt. Sounded… disturbingly familiar.

That voice. Evan. Here? Memories grabbed her heart and sliced through it like the blade of the nearby feller buncher waiting to chop the young trees from their roots—if the loggers could get it running again. She strained her eyes to the left, looking without turning her head.

Evan was watching her, jaw clenched, rainwater slicking his blond hair.

She blinked the water from her eyes.

He was still there.

Not a gorgeous hallucination. A gorgeous reality. Her pulse whumped in her ears.

What was she doing? That was easy—she was running away from her failure to keep her family together. But what was Evan doing?
