Loss De Plott The Colour Red, by Stephan J. Meyers Magical Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,https://twitter.com/StephanJMyers

911KrIw-YaL._SL1500_As I read the book Loss De Plot The Colour Red, by Stephan J.  Myers, at my table. I found my imagination travel as I read this fable.  The book is a delight it is even better read out loud. The writing is rhythmic and musical to your ears, you may find yourself dancing and flying as the music fills your imagination it soars. Loss De Plot likes to draw and she draws a man with a hat the colour red. He arrives at the door with a book. The book is blank at first to Loss. He Gram tells her it is the book of dreams. That evening she has a dream and finds out about the man with the red hat.  “for when red you draw, in a book of dreams, a simple drawing is not what it seems.”  I think this fable kids would enjoy.  They would find the magic of dreams to place in their book of dreams. The illustrations are fun and thought provoking as well a good addition to the story. My children enjoy their binders full of imagination. I think this book would open your children’s imagination maybe some adults too.  It is reflective for adults of things that could have been or possible still, while for children it is of what could be.  I think I will read more adventures of Loss De Plot by Stephan J. Meyers. This wonderful tale is for sale.To purchase this book, just click on the cover and magically to amazon you will go.This tale is a must look.

A little about Stephan J. Myers from his amazon authors page: Permanently glued to a rather dilapidated chair with a much pandered pooch at his feet; Stephan J Myers was born in England and Loss De Plott is the first in his series books for grownups featuring the beguiling Loss De Plott.

Having escaped the drudgery of corporate life and become forever lost to imagination he writes for all ages. His illustrated children’s books include The Book Of Dreams series that begins with The Colour Red.

Enjoy the magic and adventure, WB Wendy Nystrom WendyBookcaseLogo (2)

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland

Tomfoolery and 13 Yule Lads of Iceland

I have been asked by many to do a post about the yule lads of Iceland. This was my favorite folktale while living in Akureyri, Iceland. When we moved back my kids remembered it and we were lucky the Yule Lads magically came to the U.S to fill my kids boots. My story adds a little twist as they one by one come down from the mountain starting December 12th. After meeting my young James and his mishap caused by the evil yule cat, that led James to thier evil mother  Gryla aka Old Hag while their father watched Leppaludi aka Ragamuffin. Thank goodness James pals save him from Old Hags pot. The yule lads decide to stay in James’ room while they drop off a gift for every well behaved child and have fun creating some havoc and tomfoolery along the way for the town and James.  One Yule lad almost does not make appearance but Matthias the dragon is ready to assist. This book has lots of action, adventure and fun on every page. I tell people it has three stories in one book. It introduces some of Iceland’s Yuletide season traditions. Iceland is full of magic and beauty.

The Legend of the Santa Owl, by Dvora Swickle Adventure

Standard

Good Day Folks!

First I would like to thank P, J. LaRue, author of The Mystic Princesses and the Whirlpool, Amazon link to Mystic Princesses and the Whirlpool, a wonderful book. She put this blog hop together. Check out her blog is http://words-with-women.com/.

The Legend of Santa Owl, by Dvora Swickle has to be one of my favorite Christmas reads this season.

santa owl

The book starts out with a wonderful poem. A squirrel named Norman with a handful of nuts is running to visit his friend Ollie Owl. He of course trips over something and it is a beautiful glittery ball.  Ollie has no idea what the glittery ball is so he fly’s to local farm to find out. Norman takes the ball home. Ollie looks in the window and sees a tree with no root all glittered and twinkling all around. The Mr. and Mrs. pulled out a box with glittery balls to place on the tree. He hears a poem about placing on tree and it will bring gifts on Christmas Eve.  Owl fly’s back to Norman’s house and informs him. Norman hangs the ball in his tree home and went to bed and dreams of goodies. Owl watches at window waiting for Santa. But Christmas is for humans no animals he learns. They laughed. Ollie left sad and a tear in his eye, then he heard a ho ho ho and a gift floats down, which he catches. Ollie took the gift to Norman’s house for him to open. After that night Christmas is for animals too.

Today I am going to talk about this lovely sweet story by Mrs. D., Olga D’ Agostino.  This lovely colorful illustrated book centers around Nyda the house cat. This Christmas holiday cat is reminiscing about Christmas gatherings in the house as family comes home for the holiday. One Christmas the daughter brings home two kittens.  Nyda delightfully describes how the dominate cat treats new comers. Made me smile, as I read this story from Nyda the cats point of view.. The story weaves in lessons of acceptance and reminds us that most of us start our in very similar circumstances as family and friends enter our lives.  I enjoyed the lovely heart warming holiday story and I think most kids will love following Nyda in the house as she tells her stories .  You can purchase the this book and others books by Mrs D. on amazon and barnes. An Hour with Eric Kimmel Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks !  WendyBookcaseLogo (2)

I was suppose to be hosting a blog radio show called Wendys Bookcase at http://authorsontheair.com/ …. https://www.facebook.com/AuthorsOnTheAir. This blog radio program has wonderful interviews check it out.

I have delayed my debut show until 2014 so stay tuned for more on this.

I had the honor and pleasure to read and talk with children’s author Eric A Kimmel. We had a blast talking about kid books, family memories,  publishers, and where the market is heading.

We both agreed kids love a fun, story.  He enjoys going to classrooms and reading to children. He has numerous books available.  We both decided that the electronic market is changing rapidly but kids books seem to sell more books in print. Whether electronic books will take over in the children’s market in unknown.  Most important thing was keep kids reading, dreaming and stir their imagination.

How I stumbled on Eric A Kimmel’s books was I was researching Hanukkah. The first book I read was

51V3BPTH1WL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_  I fell in love with this book and read four more of his books.  Hershel saves Hanukkah by out smarting  goblins. His books are a really good read. I think any kid or adult would love his folk tales. The illustrations are wonderful in all his books.

I highly recommend his books. He has many books check out his website he even has a few that he reads to you. http://ericakimmel.com/ You and your kids will enjoy his website. His books are all available on Amazon too. Eric A Kimmel Amazon Link

My current favorite is 512R1Ic+OeL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA278_PIkin4,BottomRight,-43,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_ Jack and the Giant Barbecue. Super cool new spin on Jack and the Bean Stalk.

Jack goes on a quest to retrieve his fathers stolen barbecue recipes. It is a fun exciting adventure.

Eric A. Kimmel is a native New Yorker who lives in Oregon. He was born in Brooklyn, NY where he learned to love books and traditional stories from an early age. He could hear five different languages without leaving his block. Eric taught teachers as a professor of Education at Indiana University at South Bend and Portland State University. His favorite classes were children’s literature, language arts, storytelling, and handwriting. He left the university in 1993 to become a full-time writer, a dream he had had since kindergarten.Eric’s books have won numerous awards. He and his wife Doris have traveled all over the world, sharing his books and stories with school children in China, Africa, and Turkey.

Tomfoolery 13 Yule Lads Of Iceland and what do you get? A lot of Tomfoolery and Fun I’ll bet! The Thirteen Yule Lads of Iceland are much different than the Santa Clause we know. They are mischievous, troublesome, funny, and full of curiosity. Much like James, so when James visits them in their home with Syvok, almost gets eaten by their mother and is taunted by the Christmas Cat, they know right where they are going to come when they visit town the 13 days of Christmas. James finds out that the Yule Lads make the noisiest house guests ever when they come to stay. They clang pots, slam doors, and even bring their own lamb. However amidst all the ruckus what they create most of all is joy and fun for the holidays.

This is  a book you and your kids will want to read all the time and at Christmas Time. It was my favorite story when we lived in Iceland. I add a different spin to the old legend.

ShadesAndShadows_Cover_full-res  Good Day Folks,

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of this book.

This anthology is creepy, eerie and thrilling and a perfect read for this time of year. Starting the book with Music Man by Eric White was perfect. I knew more excitement was to come.  I could not wait to read all the other talented authors stories. I like to read fast scary, eerie stories this time of year this anthology does just that, to get me in the Halloween spirit.  You want your heart rate to increase, jump at every noise, and be reminded of that wonderful camp or sleep over stories then this is the perfect read for you. Every story flows off the pages as if you are right there within the pages of the story.  All these authors need to keep on writing. I really enjoyed the haunting stories.
