Imagining and Dreaming Future Adventure!

Standard

I googled, dragon imagine the possibilities, and this wonderful graphic popped up. I don’t know the artist, but this is enchanting and beautiful.

Imagining and dreaming about the future. What it would be like to see children’s eyes light up after reading one of my books and telling me their stories. What if an agent emailed and said I love your imagination. I want more, let’s get to work on opening children’s imaginations so they can soar. Children publisher’s will fight over your stories.
Looking at my various query letters and notes. Wondering how I grab the imagination of a literary agent. Let them know when the dragon knocks at your window the imagination flies with the dragon on a wondrous adventure. Children need their imaginations to be allowed to fly.
Getting ready for when many agencies and publishers open back up in September, asking for submissions. Well that is where my imagination adventure flew today.

Thanks for dropping in today. Enjoy the Adventures the day brings you! WB

Imaginary Friends Adventure

Standard

Good Day Folks,

I was looking up children’s literary agents and discovered one with the same first name as my childhood imaginary friend. So I sent her a query. I have not heard anything back yet, which is ok that is how this business works. Then I saw a advertising for a new show where an adult’s imaginary friend comes back in her life. This imaginary friend is weird looking muppet thing and speaks loudly. I thought how strange.

This also made me think of my childhood imaginary friend Suzie. She did not look like a muppet or speak loud ever to me. She was a little girl like me and we usually whispered, when others were around. We could communicate telepathically of course. She had long dark brown hair. When in my room alone we chatted in normal tones. Oh we had so much fun playing with my toys, kitchen set or taking care of my gerbil. We also enjoyed being outside. One of the best things we did together was follow along and listen to books with my record player.

Did any of you have a record player when you were a kid? I had a player like the picture. Our two favorite record books was Wizard of OZ and Peter Pan. Oh Suzie and I had so much fun together. Then when I was 6, my brother came home from the hospital a wonderful day, I was so happy to get a brother. Suzie was gone. Funny thing is I was not sad. Actually I did not think about her after my brother came home.I guess she went to play with another lonely child. I do have fond memories of her.

Now that I am a writer, I seem to have many imaginary friends. My favorites is Blaze the dragon and Carolyn a human. They helped me during a medical issue three years ago. When resting Blaze would visit me in my dreams and fly me away to her mountain retreat to heal. It was wonderful. It was an enchanting place built high up the mountains with beautiful views. In the back there was a patio that led to a mountain lake. We played cards and chatted in the library and when I rested on the lounge seat she would gently place a blanket on me while I read and napped.  They tell me stories and we are working on a novel about the New Moon Brethren. A new character is talking with me occasionally Isabelle or Izzy. She is a child that Blaze adopted after her parents were killed by the Daray the dark one. Occasionally I have to listen to him as well. He has big plans to take over mother earth.

Now my children’s series, ideas came from my son and I would dream the stories. It was like watching a tv series.

My son had an imaginary friend named Logan until his twin sisters were born. I remember seeing him looking at the mirror and talking with Logan, when he was 2. I asked him who Logan was and he said his friend. Would not tell me anything else about Logan.

Well I hope this agent is interested in my work. I really look forward to one day working with an agent who  can sell my work ,have great advice and good conversations.

Did you have a imaginary friend? Do any of your children have an imaginary friend?

Well that is my adventure story today. Hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks for dropping in today. Enjoy the Adventures the day brings you! WB

Writers Adventures 1

10696323_10153270875028056_4899492308701585539_n

Good Day Folks,

I have had some changes in 2016.

I spent the beginning of last year thinking of where my writing adventure needs to go. I have spent most of the year focused on finding a Children’s Literary Agent. Having an agent that knows and understands the children’s market would, one send more children on wild adventures and help them release their inner magic we all have within us. Second allow me more time to write more adventures. Third move my writing career to the next level. So I spend a lot of time researching, writing queries. So far I have received some very nice rejections. I still am hopeful though. Just need to keep plugging away, that’s the business. I am also blessed my friend Pam Stack at Authors on the Air Global Radio Network http://www.authorsontheair.com/  https://www.facebook.com/authorsontheairglobalradionetwork read a couple of my books and told me she loved my original writing, will save the adventure for her granddaughter.. She brightened up my day with her kind review and told me to keep plugging away some one will want to represent me. Check out her interviews and the other interviews on Authors On the Air. I emailed a query this morning. Wish me luck!

I also started doodling on rocks. I saw a post called doodle stones and so I started seeing pictures in stones and doodling on rocks, then leave them around town to brighten up folks day. Here is a couple I have done. It relaxes me.

I am still writing. Editing book 6 in my children’s series Well that is all I am going to say today. Next post I will talk about what I have been imagining. Thanks for dropping in today. Enjoy the Adventures the day brings you! WB

Helga Returns – A James and Syvok Adventure by Wendy Nystrom is about the adventures of James for the second time. He finds a footprint and he asks his friends Syvok and Matthias to help him find out about the footprint. They discover that it is Helga’s footprint and follow it into the troll village. Will they be able to save the troll and will Syvok and Matthias be able to save James?
It is an absolutely delightful story for children. The story has many underlying messages in it. I liked the fact that it introduces them to glaciers. Any book is educational for a reader because it will have information to offer that gives you an opportunity to learn. The characters of James, Syvok, and Matthias capture the interest of the reader but the most appealing character is Helga, the troll. Iceland as a backdrop is another interesting aspect of this book. It is a magical story of James along with the two Icelanders, Syvok and Matthias. The story does not lose its tempo and the beautiful illustrations give the characters an identity which makes it easier for children to relate to them.
The biggest advantage of adventure stories is that they encourage children to think and be imaginative. It gives them the freedom to dream, experiment, think differently, and create their own characters. I found the little trolls and dragonets very interesting and they add to the whimsical quality of the story.

Reviewed By Bil Howard for Readers’ Favorite 5 Stars

“James Saves the Moon”, written by Wendy Nystrom, is a delightful children’s picture book that combines a child’s imagination with Icelandic mythology. The illustrations by Jim Weidman, in a blue tone with colorful characters, lend a mythological feel to the story of a young boy (James), who sees the moon over one of the high mountains and decides that if he climbs to the top of the mountain he can reach out and touch the moon. Slipping quietly out of his bedroom window, he sets out on his journey. On his way up the mountain he stumbles over some rocks and disturbs one of Iceland’s mythological figures (Syvok), who joins him on his journey. They suddenly realize that unless they move faster, the moon will leave before they make it to the top of the mountain. In order that they can move faster, Syvok summons a dragon (Matthias), who allows them to ride on his back. They discover that the moon is stuck on the mountain and they will have to help get it unstuck. The three work as a team to set the moon free and while doing so, James truly does touch the moon.

The color of the illustrations by Jim Weidman and the very well-written story by Wendy Nystrom
make “James Saves the Moon” a rare treasure for a children’s picture book. Its simplicity combined with the kind of story that stirs the imagination of a child make it something that will stick in the mind of the reader for a lifetime. This book gives a little bit of a taste of the colorful and flavorful history of Iceland and its traditions. It is highly recommended for its ability to help stir a child’s imagination. A wonderfully simple and delightful tale.

Hope you enjoyed the the sale adventure. Thanks for dropping in. Enjoy the adventure every day brings you, WB    WendyBookcaseLogo

I was feeling down and wanted a pick me up so I decided to read The Colour Gold. I loved traveling with Loss and Ted following the Gold Star on a wonderful bike to find magical books of dreams and much more. Quote from the book “The strangest bike you have ever seen, with gold bells and whistles and wings painted green.  Holding on tight she searched for that star, knowing her journey would take her afar.”

index The magic of children’s books comes to life with a magical library in a faraway land in Loss De Plott & The Colour Gold. An extraordinary blend of images and words that will dazzle readers young and old from the very first page as Loss embarks on her third adventure with the magical Book of Dreams. With talking books, a rather special star and of course Ted, Loss learns that books and the words inside them are more precious than gold.

I want to thank the gifted Stephan J Myers for sharing his magical tales with us all. It was wonderful to leave all my problems for a while on a magical adventure with Loss dePlott and Ted.

Hunter

Hunter walked back to the glamour opening at the bottom of the Sphinx. Mystic, the leader of the Meat Eaters, waited for everyone’s report from the war as they exited. As he waited in line for his turn, Hunter heard someone yelling his name. “Hunter, wait for me, I need to talk to you.”

It was Saturesa, Sat for short, Hunter’s longtime friend. As Sat caught up with Hunter, he could hear the enthusiasm in Sat’s voice which meant trouble. Sat always had some hair brained scheme for picking up girls. “Hey, after you talk to Mystic, what do you say to coming to the Eastern Shore with me?”

Hunter, not feeling very social these days, told Sat, “No, I’m headed home, but thanks for the invite.”

Sat, never being one to take no for an answer, told him, “Come on, Hunter. Everyone’s going to the Eastern Shore for a weeklong celebration, and there is going to be lots of girls.” Hunter gave Sat half a smile and looked down, shaking his head as he moved up one in line.

Hunter knew that once Sat set his mind to something, he would be relentless at getting what he wanted. Hunter rolled his eyes and huffed his retort with a slight rumble in his voice, “Fine, but if I don’t have a GREAT time, I’ll leave. Got it?”

Sat rubbed his hands together in anticipation of some fun, and in his cheery voice responded, “Fine! But you’ll have a blast, I promise.”

Hunter figured the only reason Sat wanted to go was the neighbor girl named Snowdrop. Hunter had never been attracted to a female Techie. He didn’t know if it was all the hair or the fact that the females were dominant, and he preferred to be the leader in a relationship. Hunter did agree that for a Techie she looked striking. Even though he had never met her in person, he had noticed her from a distance. She didn’t have that same thick hair as the other Techies and seemed to have more of her herb growing everywhere. She was also short for a female Techie. He had not been close enough to know what color her eyes were, but Sat could not stop talking about her amazing hazel eyes. Sat would joke about how he should have been nicer to Snowdrop when she had a crush on him.

Hunter handed Mystic his one page report. “Hi Mystic, my report is short because Adam’s children did all the work. It’s always amazing to watch them in action. Is it okay to head home now?”

Mystic looked up at him from her seat. “Hunter, how is life?”

Hunter should have figured she would sense his loneliness. His kind lived so long, and without someone to share it with, the days and nights could go forever. Depression was a serious threat, but Hunter hated sympathy, so he denied it. “I’m fine.”

Mystic regarded him with concern and shook her head in disbelieve. She didn’t believe for one minute that he was truly fine, but told him, “If you need anything, let me know.”

Hunter winked at Mystic, hoping to lessen her worry. “Thanks. Catch you at the next war.” Mystic gave him a small but sweet smile as she turned her focus on the next Meat Eater in line.

Mystic Jones, as the leader of the Meat Eater species, is responsible for each and everyone one of them. She made a mental note to check up on Hunter in a few weeks. That wink he gave her was not fooling her. Sensing a strong feeling of depression, she wasn’t going to let that go for long.

As Hunter walked out of the Sphinx, he watched as Sat jumped up the minute he spotted him. Hunter felt like this was going to be a long week, and he wasn’t sure he could put up with Sat’s high level of energy. Then he heard Sat say, “Come on, we can get a ride on the war ships with the Plazies. Sap said he could drop us on the Eastern Shore.”

Hunter smiled. “I have not seen Sap or Weeping in a few hundred years.”

As they walked toward the war ships, Hunter thought about the Plazies. Sap and his wife, Weeping, are the leaders of the most unusual species, as far as Hunter was concerned. Hunter had heard that they now had a teenage daughter named Willow—he had also heard Willow was a handful. He could remember the first day he met the Plazies during one of the many wars in his lifetime. While walking next to Sat, Hunter gazed off in the distance as he remembered that day. He had walked onto one of the war ships to find no one on board, yet the ship was in operation with the precision of a well-organized team. He looked around, but stopped when he noticed a line of little sticks appearing before him, Plazies lined up on the ropes and rails. One of them started to talk, “Welcome Orion Hunter.”

Hunter remembered his feeling of shock. Although he didn’t know what part shocked him more: the stick knowing his full name or that a stick was actually speaking. He had found himself staring at thousands of sticks shaped like humans. They ranged from 5-inches to 6-inches tall and looked like all different types of wood. As a woodworker in his youth and a construction company owner in today’s world, Hunter knew his timber.

Hunter figured the look of shock showed on his face when Sap laughed and explained, “We are magic wood splinters and are what keep the old warships afloat. We are, for the most part, harmless, but we are not without ways to protect ourselves. Moving fast, it looks like we just appear and disappear, and this speed allows us to operate different areas of the ship quickly. We come from all different woods, hence the reason we all look different.”

Being brought out of his thoughts by Sat’s voice, Hunter heard, “Hunter, they’re waiting for us. Let’s go.” Hunter felt the muscle in his shoulders tighten at Sat’s enthusiastic tone. He really was not in a party mood, and until now didn’t realize he had lagged behind.

As they boarded the warships, Hunter saw Sap and walked up to him to say hi when he noticed something was wrong. “Sap, what has happened? Is everyone okay?”

Sap turned and smiled, greeting his friend. “Hello Hunter. It’s been a long time, and yes, things will be fine.”

Hunter curious asked, “Then why are the three of you so anxious?”

Sap introduced his daughter. “Hunter, this is Willow, my daughter, and she faces a task that has her worried.”

Hunter put his pinkie finger down to shake hands and told Willow, “Willow, if I can help, you need only ask.”

Willow looked worried as she said, “Not unless you can undo my teenage misbehaving and what I thought to be harmless pranks.”

Hunter looked at her with concern. “I hear an apology is owed. Am I correct?”

Willow, in tears now, turned as she noticed the warships headed out of the delta and to the open seas. “Hunter, it is more than just an apology. I was awful to Creature, and I thought they were just harmless jokes … but a good man may die because of me.”

Hunter thought a minute. “Wait, could you be talking about Creature Notte?”

Willow looked up with a bit of hope that maybe he could help. “Yes, do you know her?”

Hunter smiled. “As a matter of fact, I have worked with Creature off and on for a few hundred years. If there is one thing she is, it’s understanding. I think if you just come clean and be sincere, she will see her way to forgive you. Now, what is this about a man dying?”

Willow, still not fully convinced everything would be okay, sniffled, “That is the whole problem, I have to take Creature on a quest to become one with Deciding Island, and if I fail and she does not go … then Mica Sands will die.”

Hunter asked, “Mica Sands. He’s an Infin right? But what does he have to do with Creature?”

Willow was still crying, and trying to talk. “They are in love. They are mates, and now they could lose each other because of me.”

Hunter looked over at Sap for more clarity. Sap explained, “Mica was horribly wounded, and if Creature does not become one with Deciding Island, he will die. The only way to save him is if the Island does it … and because of Willow’s behavior, Gaia the Island’s spirit has said that is it up to Willow to take Creature on this quest into the Black Heart forest.”

Willow cried out, “She is punishing me.”

Sap walked over and put his arm around his daughter. “She is not punishing you; she is teaching you. Now go with your mother.”

Hunter, Sat, and Sap watched as the two disappeared, then Sap spoke, “It is nice to see you again, but I must get to my post. We will be dropping the two of you off at Eastern Shore. If I don’t see you before you leave, goodbye.”

Hunter gave his best smile, hoping to cheer Sap a little. He could see the worry on Sap’s face. “Goodbye, Sap. See you at the next war.”

The rest of the trip Sat and Hunter watched the ocean go by, and, from time to time, would notice dolphins and whales playing in the ship’s wake.

After reaching land at Eastern Shore, Hunter and Sat turned to wave at the Plazies. Hunter watched the old warship head back out to sea. It was so surreal in its beauty, yet it demanded the respect of an ancient warrior. Sat looked over at Hunter. “Hey, what is up with you lately? You’re always dazing off … Oh no … you’re not getting depressed are you?” Sat was now worried about his friend. Hunter looked at Sat and thought, Great, now I have to put up with his enthusiasm and pity, what a week this is going to be.

Hunter thought about it and decided that maybe he was a little more depressed than he was letting himself realize. “Hunter, look at me and tell me that you’re not getting depressed.”

Hunter looked at his friend. “I wish I could, but I’m thinking that maybe I am getting just a little depressed. After all, how long can a man go without the love of a mate? And how old am I?” They didn’t really keep a close watch on time; the question was purely hypothetical. Hunter was not waiting for an answer, just making a point. Sat knew Hunter was older than he was. Sat had been around for four hundred plus years.

Sat slapped Hunter on the shoulder reassuring him, “That will be our goal then, to find you a mate, and soon.” Hunter just smiled and kept walking.

Children’s and YA Author Saoirse O’Mara Adventure!

Standard
Good Day Folks,
Today I am so looking forward to sharing about talented children’s and YA author Saoirse . O’Mara. She writes wonderful adventure tales for ages 5-18. check it out.

Saoirse O’Mara is a freelance writer of children’s and YA fantasy.

She lives in Germany with her sweetheart and works as freelance editor,

translator, and language teacher whenever she isn’t writing.

“I first started writing when I had figured out how to build words

out of these weird shapes we call letters. My probably strongest

memory of an early written piece is from fourth grade, when

My next strong memory, and my first finalized manuscript,

was an adventure book for children, similar to those by Enid Blyton–
my strongest influence back then and my favorite writer for a long time.
I simply loved her Famous Five and Adventure series, among others.
I wrote that manuscript when I was twelve or thirteen, and
completely revised and rewrote it again with sixteen.
It’s still sitting on my shelf and on my hard-drive,
and I think apart from my mom, no one has ever read it.
It’s nothing to show around (I’m sure my writing style back then was awful),
but it is certainly something to be proud of. I started

and finished a complete manuscript.
I don’t remember when I started reading fantasy

but it must have been pretty early on.
With twelve, I read my first book in English (I’m a German native)–
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, followed by
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets…and then Lord of the Rings.
Yes, I went from a children’s book to High Fantasy
with lots of difficult-to-read descriptions. To be honest,
I’m still not sure I actually understood all of the story
and scenery, but I managed to read through the whole trilogy
and was hooked enough that I bought
and read The Hobbit a year later during a vacation in London.”

I wrote a short theatre play that was almost shown at a school festival.
I don’t remember anymore what prevented the show,
but I still remember clearly how we practiced for weeks in our breaks.

You never know when you might end up on the other side of the law….
Govin had no clue how much his life would change
when he signed up for the City Guard in Davon.
A fateful meeting throws him into an adventure
he would never have imagined, not even in his wildest dreams,
and he is left to fix the mess once known as his life.
And if that weren’t enough, there is still a cunning thief to catch….
“Bardon put the quill down and scrutinised his work.
The sketch showed a young girl with untidy hair,
smart eyes and a cute little nose. ‘A pretty girl,’ he remarked. ‘Too bad she’s a thief.
She might’ve grown up to become a beauty,
but I doubt she’ll live long enough.
The streets are rough, and the prison’s even rougher.’ Govin felt a pang of guilt.”
Meet Govin and Tayla as their friendship begins.
Their first meeting doesn’t bode well,
but when faced with the choice to save themselves
or do the right thing, they decide to stand up for each other.

“‘What does that mean for us?’ Govin asked.
‘You have to be very careful. At this point,
the High Mage doesn’t know whom of his teachers
and mages he can still trust, and neither should you.
Trust no one, do you understand? It could cost your life.
I’m sorry that I have to send you on such a dangerous mission,
but you two are the only ones I can send in disguise.
The safety of Davon and the surrounding lands
could depend on your success. Be careful.’”

“No matter how she looked at it, she ended up with far too many suspects.
How should she ever get to the bottom of the attack
and the murder if almost half the harbour population had a motive?”
Tayla would have never dreamed that her day off might end so terribly–
or that Govin wouldn’t find time to help her when she needs him.
Yet she decides that justice can’t wait, and she follows her heart
to right a wrong that happened in front of her eyes.
Despite the dangers involved, her resolve stays strong.
