BIO: Award-winning author, Vicki Batman, has sold many romantic comedy works to the True magazines, several publishers, and most recently, a romantic comedy mystery to The Wild Rose Press. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and several writing groups.
An avid Jazzerciser. Handbag lover. Mahjong player. Yoga practioner. Movie fan. Book devourer. Cat fancier. Best Mom ever. And adores Handsome Hubby.
Most days begin with her hands set to the keyboard and thinking “What if??”

LET’S CHAT: How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing? So much so, my men are afraid anything they say or do will show up. My heroine loves handbags, chocolate, and Jeeps—just like me.

What kind of research do you do for a book? It depends. So far, the funniest has been about plumbing and fruitcake. For Temporarily Employed, I researched stolen car parts, insurance, cops. It helps to be mostly right.

When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms? I wished for a long time I could write mysteries like Dick Francis; yet, it took me twenty years to try. Wish I had begun sooner. Maybe my ideas needed to percolate.

Tell us about your romantic comedy mystery, Temporarily Employed. What motivated the story? Where did the idea come from? A friend challenged me to write the opening paragraph of a book using the word window. I used it and a lot more. My muse worked me for eight more chapters. I showed what I had to my friend and she said for me to continue.

Do you feel humor is important in fiction and why? I do. For me, writing humor in my stories comes naturally. And it is more real life. I’m not a doom and gloomy person. I select specific words for a funny result and write humorous dialogue.

What is your writing routine once you start a book? An idea goes Bing! And I take off, usually in dialogue with a smattering of the other stuff as it pops in my head. My first draft is very, very rough. I read over and over and edit and edit to get it perfect for my critique partner. When I get my critique back, I’d hoped all would be good to go, but alas, it never is. So I work and work it again. Then one day, I let go…

What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?
Sounds crazy but I always workout. Every single day. I do needlepoint and chill in front of the TV with Handsome.
vicki batman book cover mayBLURB for Temporarily Employed: New Job. New Love. And Murder. Hattie Cook’s dream job is down the toilet and her new SUV violated. Micheal Rivers, Verliege Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

Today I am honored to introduce award winning mystery/thriller author Micheal Rivers.  The book adventure is his spine-tingling ghost story Verliege.

micheal rivers picture

BESTSELLING PARANORMAL THRILLER AUTHOR MICHEAL RIVERS won 1st Place Runner up at The Paranormal Awards 2014 and has won Supernatural Book of the Year 2012.

Micheal Rivers is the pseudonym for Mike Baugham. His Cherokee heritage prompted him to honor his great-grandfather and write under the name of Rivers. He grew up near the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His love of the sea and all it has to offer was the driving force of his first novel The Black Witch. As a child, he became aware of the supernatural world due to several experiences. A recognized authority as a paranormal investigator with more than thirty years of research, teaching classes and giving speeches provides his readers with some of his experiences woven into his paranormal thrillers. He is the lead investigator for the Smokey Mountain Ghost Trackers.

His works include supernatural thrillers, literary fiction and ghost story anthologies published by Schiffer Publishing. Micheal is a USMC veteran and served during Vietnam. The passions in his life are his wife, family, Boxer Delilah affectionately known as DeeDee, and the great outdoors.

Book Blurb 71zpqULEcHL

Verliege, a chilling paranormal and international crime mystery, begins at Arlette Mansion in the mountains of West Virginia. Prisoner and author Adrian Bolt was transferred there accused of the horrific murder of his wife. She was found brutally murdered by an antique sword. His conviction by a German court was as swift as the sword that killed her. Adrian had not spoken since her death …until… Dr. James Pellitere was able to break his silence.

A deal was offered to Pellitere. Traveling to Germany with a paranormal investigative team they searched for evidence that would clear Adrian and prove him innocent. While at the castle, Pellitere is confronted by the supernatural residents. A battle begins over the secret of the nine and a prophecy is in jeopardy of becoming unfulfilled.

Praise for Verliege

“I was reminded of Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892) and William Hope Hodgson’s accounting of the final voyage of the Mortzestus (1909), and the telling of Lovecraft’s “The Statement of Randolph Carter” (1919). Such is the narrative of this in comparison with these types of confessional stories. Like Gilman, Hodgson, and Lovecraft, the richness of dialog is not lacking in Rivers’s prose. The creatures of Verliege have some similarities with Tim Powers’s nephilim in The Stress of Her Regard, but without the vampiric tendencies. I hope the reader realizes that I am tossing out these comparisons to illustrate the depth of craft honed in Verliege. Rivers does not so much stand upon the shoulders of of these giants as he rubs elbows with them.”

Magic Carousel Adventure!

Standard

Good Day Folks,

Magic Carousel has been my focus of late. I have been working on my 6th children’s book this past week. James and Syvok will be on vacation in my home state Minnesota and have a mission they must take care which involves a carousel. I was doing research on the carousel at Como Zoo in St. Paul where I grew up.  I was rewarded with two surprises during my research. The first one is to my delight is that the Como Zoo is still free.   I went there often as kid and I took my kids there when I visited. It also one of the last places we visited as a family before my parents passed away.

The second surprise was the beautiful carousel that is there now was the carousel at the Minnesota State Fair grounds and it was saved from leaving the city of St. Paul by community members and placed at Como Zoo.  The carousel was ordered in 1914. My grandmother probably rode the carousel. I rode it every time I went to the state fair and all of my kids have carousel 3been on this carousel. carousel Check it out it has dragons it really is a beautiful magical place.

When I would ride I would dream about wild adventures truly loved the carousel they are so magical. Did you ride on a carousel? Do you remember where you imagination would go while riding?

Lost Adventure March 3, 2014

Standard

Good Day Folks,

A year ago today I lost all memories of this day and my head went platinum.  I remember most of March 2nd but not March 3rd. I went to the ER in my small city thinking I needed some fluids for the flu after being ill for 9 days. This was right after turning 50 and the next day was in bed with flu symptoms. I did go to the ER in the middle of the 9 days but their was a bunch of chaos so I told my husband to take me home. Anyway the second time going to the ER on March 2nd, I walked in with my husband at my side weak and my left brown eye had moved towards my nose. I had double vision and thought I will get some fluids and feel much better. I guess I was complaining of a head ache but do not remember that. The ER doctor immediately put me in a bed and called to have me transferred to a hospital in Grand Rapids. I did have a scan which showed I had two bleeding aneurisms. The ambulance arrived and I enjoyed chatting with the nice young woman EMT person sitting next to me.   Upon arriving at the hospital they set me up in intensive care and then rolled me down to have another scan. Jim my husband arrived by the time I was returned to my room in intensive care and a neurosurgeon arrived to inform us about my condition. Pretty much the last thing I remember. The next day March 3rd I had brain surgery. I do not remember any of this day. They placed two platinum coils in my arteries to stop the bleeding.  It worked and and they did not have cut open my head. They went all the way to my brain from the inside of my thigh. The little tiny wound never bothered me at all. I remember my second visitor Chris Fox. Sorry Amy Bowling I don’t remember your visit.  March 4th,I remember arguing with a nurse about getting up to go to the bathroom. She wanted me to use a bed pan. Nope not doing that as long as I could get up. She told me I was an unusaul patient in ICU with my condition most are unconscious. When I told my friends this they all laughed and said nothing stops me from talking and being bossy.  On the 5th day they moved me out of the ICU and discharged me from the hospital. I walked out on my own.

A year later  enlightenment.  Upon arriving home my kids all hugged me and were happy I was home. I found out my wonderful neighbors the DeBolds picked up my kids at school and made dinner for them, hung out with them at the house so my husband could come down and be with me. My mother in law did not have to to come out to help. Luckily my husband was on sabbatical so he could be with me 24/7 during my recovery. I was really lucky I also discovered all these people in my small city of Big Rapids who care about me. My friends Robin Stratton and Chris Fox  set up an update page on Facebook. My friend Candice Simpson posted on my pages for me. My publisher delayed the release date for book 4 Amongst the Clouds, she told me to  just let her know when I am able to read the edits from the editor. I am really a truly blessed person.  My recovery has been remarkable. I rested for a couple weeks. Then began making dinner again, my kids were so happy because their dad just does not cook very well. In may I started walking around the block and increased the distance when I felt strong enough. When the snow came I started yoga+ low impact work out. My husband was concerned I may slip so did not want me walking by myself. It got to cold anyway. I traveled to Orlando to pick up a best childrens award for Helga Returns by myself.  I got to meet some people who I met on Facebook in person and they are more wonderful in person and now friends in the real world too. MCV Egan and Jodi Stone two talented authors and truly beautiful in person been traveling this writing adventure with me for years on facebook it was so wonderful to hug and laugh in person. It  is quite interesting traveling with double vision. My spectacular  in-laws arrived in June and helped me around the house. My vision was back to normal and they took the kids a week later on a wonderful trip to D.C and Niagara Falls. I started writing again while my kids were on vacation. This was one of the things I was truly worried about not be able to spin a story again. My dearest pals picked me up for ladies night out when I was ready to be in public it was fun seeing two of each at the dinner table and I managed not to spill anything in the restaruant.

One of my first outings in town was to stop in a pick up my favorite chocolates down town at the Old Pioneer store and the wonderful owner ran up to me gave me a hug.  Carleen told me how happy she was to see me alive and doing so well.  This past year I have traveled, inspired a classroom of children to write, talked about writing to Ms Cosper’s  university students, talked with families and children in Cadillac. Brought in 20 authors to our community library with the help of Diane Scarpelli and Library director. Worked with some incredible people in the community. Published two more children’s books. My muse from my novel visited me every time I slept help to heal me and told me the story of the New Moon Brethren. Fun times and travels with my family.  I recently joined local writers group to help with my writing and discovered some more incredible talented folks. And it helping me focus and be able to write for longer periods of time.

I have had a fun filled year of adventure and was enlightened of how blessed I am with family, and friends and what a wonderful community Big Rapids truly is.  Enjoyed a fun filled family Christmas trip southwest.  I still walk a little funny but it hardly noticable and at times stumble with words but it is truly wonderful watching my children grow and achieve, talk with my husband every day. I make sure I tell my family I love them every day.  I want to thank everyone for all you do and how spectacular you are. Every day we wake up is truly another wonderful magical adventure so enjoy each day!

Who We Were
A Contemporary Romance
Novel

 By Christy
Sloat

 Christy Sloat usually dives
into the paranormal realm when it comes to her books. She gave us;
The Past Lives Series and her bestselling trilogy, The Visitors Series. One night
she was trying to sleep and ignore the idea of a book that was beginning to
haunt her. She threw off the covers and decided to write the layout of Who We
Were, a novel about a young girl who finds out how one simple alteration in her
summer could change her life forever.
Sloat wrote the book in under three months and is very happy
to be able to say she has added a contemporary romance to her line up of books.
Here is the long awaited cover for Who We Were. Get the
standalone novel September 15th published by
Anchor Group Publishing.

About Who We Were

“Who we were had washed away with the summer. Who we are was
yet to be seen.”
 Summer school at
Alcott High was only supposed to gain Sadie Peters extra credit, nothing more.
Her goal wasn’t to make friends, or gain the attention of the most popular
football player, yet she managed both. Her life was cruising along on course
… until that summer.
Could a simple stint in a different school change her
identity completely and introduce her to love for the first time? How would
that affect her relationship with Lily, her best friend?
Hopefully their friendship was strong enough to make it
through the tumultuous summer. Sadie learns that great things come with change,
but sometimes memories of the past are hardest to part
with.

I’m a Dragon by Sigal Adler Adventure

Standard

Good Day Folks,
This book was fun. Of course I am a little biased since I love dragons. Yes I agree dragons can do whatever they want.
I’m a Dragon by Sigal Adler . 5 gold stars   i'm a dragon
The book is fun rhyming story with colorful fun illustrations by Abira Das. It is 12 pages long. I think parents will enjoy reading this rhythmic rhyming story that discusses a child pushing the limits. I also think young readers up to age 7 will enjoy the story. Children and parents can have fun acting out the scenes as they read.
Brief Synopsis
A young boy named Ron, announces he is a dragon for the day. This means can do anything he wants day or night. His dad has trouble with him throughout the day. Dragons only eat pizza, pasta and ice cream. He does not want to pick up his room, and does not have to ask permission to do anything. Bed time is the final straw, when the young dragon has finally pushed his tired dad and he loses his patience. His father turns into a dragon-dad with three heads. Ron thinks and decides he is not a dragon kid since is dad is a great big dragon and not much fun. It is time to end the game of being a dragon kid and start listening to dad, and go to bed and have a fun dream.

Nearly two months since my last post adventure!

WendyBookcaseLogo (2)Good Day Folks !

I certainly hope most people are doing well. I am improving every day.

I am going to start with what is happening now then talk what has been going on in my life. First my PA Candice is going to be making some changes to the blog look. Always need to update things once in a while.  I want to thank Candice Simpson for updating my social media for me.

1524720_243755422452734_247398926_nI should be at Turning The Page Signing/Award Event. My second adventure Helga Returns was awarded best children’s book ages 9 to 12. The event is in Orlando and I have made all my arrangements just need to have my vision issues improve by April 25th.  http://www.turningthepagesllc.com/  FB https://www.facebook.com/turning.pages.33

Helga Returns

Just click on cover for Amazon link Kindle is only 99 cents until April 21.

We have had wicked storms in my area which knocked our power for a while. We were lucky so far at my house. Many of my friends, neighbors are still without power and water since April 12th. Some other had trees or other objects damage their homes or property. And some are having flooding issues. Now we are getting cold again and may get a little snow.

I have anothecover whiter book releasing in May. Been through the editing phase just waiting on the last 6 or so illustrations. It is my best work. 4th in the James and Syvok Adventure. Most of my characters from previous books are involved and a new character has been introduced. What could possibly be inside an iridescent cloud. Lots of action and magic in this adventure.

Late February and March were troublesome for me. I turned 50 February 19th. I had a wonderful night out with friends then a couple of days later I became ill thinking I had the flu. Went to the ER thinking they would give me some fluids to get better but instead they put me on an ambulance and sent me down to a hospital in the big city an hour south of us. Two days later I had brain surgery. I had two bleeding aneurisms one on each side. I always have to be equal I guess.  Now my brain has gone platinum. I have platinum coils that have stopped the bleeding. It will be 5 weeks since the surgery. I was lucky I was able to go home to recover. I still have double vision issues and my eyes are improving every day. I sometimes forget the words I was thinking when I was to speak. Otherwise I am walking now most days up to 3 blocks on Sunday. Yesterday when I woke up my vision was single vision for about 2 seconds. If I turn my head a little to the left I have single vision. So my left eye is slowly moving back in place. Neurologists said it should correct itself and recovery varies per individual. My last Cscan was good. The second group of words are just off a little nearly lined up as one.  My novel has not been touched,  writing has been challenge. Blaze has begun visiting me again in my dreams. She just brought me back home last night. She flew me to her and Carolyn’s mountain retreat. It was so wonderful to get some rest and have good company. We had lovely conversations, played cards, went out on the mountain lake behind the home, read, and relaxed in the interior hot spring pool. I got to know their brownies who are wonderful creatures who take care of the place. They became part of Carolyn’s family when she lived in Scotland. They are like sprites or nymphs who live in the woods and will take care of things you did not get done during the day if you treat them nice. So I should be back working on the New Moon

I am hoping to have my vision back or close to normal this week.  Yep I wrote this seeing everything in double. Pretty good huh…….. LOL

I have been having quite the adventure these last two months. Thanks for Visiting Enjoy the Adventure! WB    WendyBookcaseLogo (2)
